Charlie Brear’s 2016 Bridal Collection

2016 is set to be an exciting year for Charlie Brear, the British designer and the eponymous fashion label. With over 10 years experience in the bridal fashion industry, Charlie is known for taking classic designs and giving them a contemporary twist.

Shortlisted as ‘one to watch’ for SS14 London Fashion Week and with Bridal, Ready To Wear and Additions collections, Charlie and her label certainly show no signs of slowing down.

With her 2016 Bridal Collection launching, we caught up with the founder and designer behind one of the most imaginative and iconic labels in British Bridal fashion.

What inspired your 2016 Bridal Collection?

I have always been drawn to the whimsical silhouettes of the 1970s and the glamour of the New Romantics, so wanted to reference both this season. Think Studio 54 meets The Blitz Club! We’ve worked with beautiful fabrics including soft tulles, weightless chiffons, luxe satins, sandwashed silks and lace, and, as usual, everything is made in the UK.

Do you find more brides are opting for contemporary style wedding dresses?

Yes, and that’s why our 2016 collection features design juxtapositions throughout, which balance femininity and androgyny for a contemporary aesthetic that really appeals to the fashion conscious bride.

What bridal trends do you predict will be big in 2016?

We’re seeing more and more brides opt for separates, which can by styled for a totally unique look. Our versatile Additions range works perfectly as co-ords or layered to transform a look throughout day and night. Standout pieces for 2016 include the corded lace cropped top with ¾ length sleeves and matching overskirt, the crushed fur jumper with open back and ribbon tie and the delicately beaded Chantilly overdress – all of which can also be worn after the wedding as ready to wear.

Do you have a favourite piece from your 2016 collection? If yes, which one?

I have so many favourites, but one dress that really stands out for me this season is the Caravel – a strapless, ankle length dress with pleat detail skirt and geometric lace over shimmer fabric.

What advice would you give to a bride looking for a non-traditional dress for her wedding?

Investigate alternative silhouettes – from midi-dresses and jumpsuits [we have an incredible lace version for 2016] to co-ord separates and slip dresses, which can be layered for a contemporary, non-traditional look. We work with a lot of feature fabrics, which also play a pivotal role in updating an otherwise traditional dress
